Laptop battery charge into the point of how not to do?

My laptop two years old. All along, all the time using a laptop linked with power. Recently found out that my battery is only 40 percent, but does not always charge into electricity. May I ask how is this going children? My laptop battery is broken?

By a replacement battery. Sounds like the original has reached end of life.
