Computer Freezes During DV Import
When I try to import video into my computer, about five to ten minutes into the import my computer freezes and the import software I am using goes to ''not responding''. I started with movie maker and then tried a number of free internet downloads that are for DV capture. I am worried that my computer does not have the power to handle the video stream. Can anyone help or shed some light on this issue.
Converter: Sony DVMC-DA2
Fire Wire four to six
Windows XP
I am using a Fire Wire PCI card to give my computer a Fire Wire port.

Never tried it myself but a couple questions...
If it runs ok for a few minutes, can you see any usable data in the folders it's writing to before it bogs down?
Can you change the quality it's trying to convert the VHS file to, from high to low?
What kind of video card do you have, and do you know if the software utilizes it when converting or is it all software based?
If you're using XP looks like it might be an issue w/ service packs http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;327897

All of the video it imported before the freeze is clearly and easily played in windows media player. I will try to lower the video quality and see if that makes a difference. As for your last question I really do not know, however I think it works like a standard firewire port.
Thanks for the ideas.
