I always preferred the Logitech MX series....back when I was gaming, that rig had an MX300 or something like that. Just using native Microsoft drivers...never installed Logitechs drivers, they often caused issues (as do most 3rd party mouse drivers). The basic MS drivers do just fine.

Oh..and corded...never cordless/wireless.

I appreciate y’alls input. There’s about a billon mice with about a billion options, multiple buttons (I’ve seen as high as 14 on one mouse), 10,000 DPI, cordless. AAAAARRRRRRGGG!

Another question, what kind of DPI should I look for?

IMO, once you get past a certain point with DPI...(like 600)....you can't tell the differences. The MX300 I have is 800 I think. That's at least several years old now, todays mice...I'm sure most of them are over a thousand....I wouldn't worry about the higher ones.

For me...size/shape of mouse is what counts (I have big hands...and the MX series fits nicely for me).

As for all those extra programmable buttons...I never use them. Some people might....depending on game support of them also.
Plus on many of them, to use those extra buttons, you most likely have to install their software..which I'd avoid.

I agree with YS about the size/shape being a determining factor...

As far as specs/brand, I'd get anything that is:
Laser (Bluetrack?/Darkfield?), cordless, over 600 DPI, and a good brand - I buy either Microsoft or Logitech mice. I find that using more than 5-6 buttons is an overkill for me, even though I can see how it may help in some games.

Love the MX series myself also...the shape was great for my hands.. picked up very well.

Also corded NEVER cordless for gaming.. to easy for it to lose connection and/or die in the middle of hard core pwning!!

I have used a Logitech Optical Trackball for years after an elbow surgery. Means I don't have to move my wrist as much and works good for gaming , at least for me. Too bad Logitech quit making them and they are hard to find online.

SteelSeries Sensei 310, this is what I use and best gaming mouse I have ever used. It totally justifies its cost and performance. It comes with 3 optical sensors that make it awesome to game with.

Currently Zowie ZA13 ( 800dpi / 1000Hz / 1920x1080 )

"A better DPI is a requirement"

DPI is not a requirement, its only marketing requirement :D

Most Pro Gamer use 400/800DPI. You will need more DPI when you play on 4k/8k Resolutions, but 4k will affect your FPS and Smoothness especially on FPS Games.

Since this has been necro-bumped a few times I may as well reply ;) I still like good brand wireless mice, they seem to be good enough for occasional gaming and I am so used to wireless that I can't stand the cords. More than 5-6 buttons just seem to get in the way for me too. On a regular basis I only use back/forward thumb buttons, the mouse wheel and left/right clicks.

I mostly use this mouse for PC, I have a couple but they're getting old: Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 v2 0
My second choice, a bit smaller but great for laptop, my daughter uses one too: Logitech Marathon M795

For mouse pad I use a FUNC Surface 1030 (rough surface version), it's a hard plastic pad, they were very popular about 10 years ago and last forever, but getting hard to find these days.
Linux is user friendly, it's just picky about its friends...

I have the same mouse, but the wired version. My girlfriend has the bluetooth wireless one, but ends up using it wired because it runs out of battery too quickly.
