Update SG Bits/Bytes Conversion Calculator

Post by akaase »

Hello, my suggestion is to update this conversion calculator to include the current (since 1998) IEC standard for binary prefixes. The middle column should have all its units and abbreviations corrected to: Byte, B; Kibibyte, KiB; Mebibyte, MiB; Gibibyte, GiB; and Tebibyte, TiB.

The right column should have listed all the units that used to be in the middle column: Byte, B; Kilobyte, KB; Megabyte, MB; Gigabyte, GB; and Terabyte, TB.

Since much more massive storage and faster data communications have become realities in the past decade, it might be a good idea to add two more rows of calculations: petabits (Pb), Pebibyte (PiB), Petabytes (PB), exabits (Eb), Exbibyte (EiB), and Exabytes (EB).

I did make the "KiB..." changes as suggested. adding Petabytes and Exabytes may be a added in the future, it's a bit out of the scope of retail home users.
