Connecting my phone to PC

Post by Easto »

I do know how to connect my phone to my PC but I was just wondering how safe doing that is? I really don't have an anti-virus on my phone and I keep thinking that there might be some wayward cookie or malware on my phone just waiting to be connected to a big juicy PC.

I doubt this is a significant threat. First they are different operating systems. Android Play Store vets and tests apps that get installed on your phone, Windows virus-checks incoming files. Still, there is a slight possibility of zero-day exploits going through both checks, but you'd have to have some specially crafted files for that on your phone first, then transfer/execute them on your PC, seems like a lot of steps.
Linux is user friendly, it's just picky about its friends...

I use the "MyPhone" app to tie my phone in with my laptop and desktop. It connects via wireless. This way I can "text from my computer, both receive, and send" through my phone...very handy.
Also a handy app to grab pics from the phone, although I also just use photos.google.com once I take a pic from my phone.

I don't put many apps on my phone, I use it for work so keeping it clean.

Also I tether my laptop to my phone a lot to get internet when I'm away from traditional wifi, or at big public wifi like an airport or hotel.
