No Coffee

It's been almost 4 months since my last cup of coffee. I didn't stop for any particular reason other than I thought that after about 40 years of drinking several cups every day it was about time to take a break. I have to tell you though, about every 2 weeks I'll have a day where I just want a cup of coffee like it's no one's business! I've quit before but this is the longest I've ever gone.

Why would you quit coffee? I can understand if you have hypertension or something, but I thought in moderation caffeine is not bad for your health.

It's not really a health/benefit issue with me. It's just more of an addiction issue. I just ask myself "why is this something you can't seem to quit"? So I've decided to go for a while without.

I will tell you one thing though... the first cup of coffee after not drinking any for a couple of months is euphoric.

I see, I can understand the personal growth "mind over matter" tack :)

Like sex. I'm with you (not you in the way you think, but in the way I think).

Can't imagine it... I'm a 101% caffeine junky for sure! I remember years ago, going to the lab for yearly blood tests (fasting no food from prior evening)... I'd go first thing and the place was packed, mostly w older people- long wait. Receptionist said " all the seniors want to get it done asap so they can go have breakfast- later on it's empty in here". So next time, I waited until about 11am, and she was was right- empty. I did this the next couple times, they'd always ask "you haven't eaten since last night?", and I'd always assure them I hadn't. Then one day, after asking me the question, I said the only part that really bugs me is no coffee when I get up, and having to wait so long for that first cup. She says "oh, coffee's no problem- you just can't have cream or sugar in it..." I'm like OMG, really??? Who cares- I drink it black anyway! The suffering was over lol....

Trust me, it's not easy for me. I spent the last 35 years of my life drinking as least 3-4 cups a day. I love coffee. But I started to realize that it had control of me, I didn't have control of it. Unfortunately for me there's just no happy medium. I've quit for 2 or 3 months several times. I get to a point where I say "Ok, just 1 cup this morning", by the end of the week I'm back up to where I was before I quit.
