Question About the newest firmware for the Linksys Befsr41

Updated the firmware and all seems good except the DMZ Host feature doesn't work anymore. It worked fine before and nothing changed except my routers firmware. Anyone else having probs with it?

I cant get even get the new firmware to take. At least I don't think it is, normally after upgrade on the status screen will show the firmware version. I've done this before with no issues. Anyone else with similar problem?????

BaLa, I cant run any trace routes either......thats why i like to use DMZ Host. It allows everything thru to this pc and then i run Zone Alarm on the pc.

Ok, went back to the 1.40.2 firmware and DMZ Host works again and can also do trace routes. If anyone needs that firmware to go back to then you can get it at:

ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/befsr41/befsr-fw1402.zip

Yeah I chuckled at that one too. Kind of like buying a Corvette, removing it's engine, and dropping in a little 4 cyl engine from a Fiat.

I'll always stick with a routers hardware NAT over any software firewall.

Yeh yeh i know....but ive ran Zone Alarm software for a while and am used to it....it already has all the settings i want in it. Thats why im using DMZ Host right now. Maybe on the next format i'll use the routers NAT instead.

I tried this firmware, and it's flaky as hell. DHCP was screwed up- half the time clients wouldn't get IP's- at startup, they'd all broadcast like crazy, hang for a while, then finally give up and revert to either 0.0.0.0, or the 169.x.x.x ip. Sometimes updates to router setup would take, sometimes they wouldn't.

Also be aware it removes a lot of your existing settings too- you have to re-set them. I scrolled through after flashing it and found "block WAN requests" (aka:stealth) de-selected.

DHCP would also grant IP's to my PC's network enhancer (for VPN client S/W) with no NetBIOS name associated with it!

Also, anyone else notice in the last couple revisions the new "feature" for SPI (stateful packet inspection)? They claim through this new firware, to now have SPI capabilities on the router. Yet I can find no info on their site or anywhere else to describe their implementation, or to test it. I will tell you this- if you ENABLE SPI, port forwarding does NOT work. So if you're having grief forwarding a port, you'll have to disable SPI.

All in all, a pretty bad release IMHO. I've since flashed it back to 1.40.2, and all is well again

I'm at 1.40.2 and I thought that was the latest firmware available. Guess that's what I get for thinking. What is the rev you guys are having such trouble with so I don't get it? Thanks for your time.

1.42.3 is the latest and lousiest. Stick with your version- I've had no problems with it, and have reverted back to that version and all is well again.
