My usb connection is faster then my ethernet
For some reason my usb connection downloads at 1.5Mb to 2Mb, but when I use my ethernet cable its around 300k to 700k download. I tried 6 different ethernet cables including the cat6 cable I bought today. I've also tried a new ethernet pci card to replace the onboard ethernet port and it didnt change anything. I also had my internet provider try a different cable modem and i get the same result. I cant find anything on the internet about this problem.
I have tried everthing I know and Im at a major loss. Please help. « SpeedGuide.net TCP Analyzer Results » Tested on: 01.12.2008 17:17 IP address: 24.206.xxx.xxx TCP options string: 020405b40103030201010402 MSS: 1460 MTU: 1500 TCP Window: 256960 (multiple of MSS) RWIN Scaling: 2 Unscaled RWIN : 64240 Reccomended RWINs: 64240, 128480, 256960, 513920 BDP limit (200ms): 10278kbps (1285KBytes/s) BDP limit (500ms): 4111kbps (514KBytes/s) MTU Discovery: ON TTL: 51 Timestamps: OFF SACKs: ON IP ToS: 00000000 (0) ethernet cable test ![]() with usb cable

I have already done that. I tried that when I was on my motherboard port and with my new pci network card.

This is what I get when I try tracert.
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. C:\Documents and Settings\James>tracert www.speedguide.com 'tracert' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. C:\Documents and Settings\James> When I just type "tracert speedguide.com" on the run line it works, but the window closes before I can copy the results. |

Note that your speedtests with ethernet cable show higher ping times than those with USB cable.
Do 2 NDTs (one with USB and the other with ethernet) at this site and post the pop-up reports under the 'Statistics' button: http://nitro.ucsc.edu/

These 2 entries should not be in your running process. The first leads to a website that my browser sounded a high security warning:
O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - http://www.gkko.com/thumbs/2167.gif O24 - Desktop Component 1: (no name) - http://www.mushkin.com/lib/images/pr...p_ddr_dual.jpg Try deleting them with Hijackthis.

I removed the 2 lines you suggested by using hijackthis and it didnt change the speed problem. Im sure they needed to be removed anyway.

The ethernet connection shows normal round trip time, but excessive packet losses and presence of 'other network traffic'.
The USB connection shows high round trip time but min. packet losses. My guess is that the presence of 2 kinds of connections (eg. 2 Nic) at the same time in your comp may be causing signals to alternate between them, and having preference on the USB.

When I unplug one cable to attach the other, my OS(WinXp) automatically disables the other connection. It Loads the drivers it needs, that I provided.
Im not sure how my OS would get the connection confused. It knows when the usb or ethernet cable is plugged in and automatically uses either 10Mbs or 100Mbs. Right now I,m back on cable modem going straight to my usb port and my OS disabled the pci connection via ethernet to the cable modem. Could my ISP, be bogged down when I try to use the faster connection? |

Try calling out the DOS box and check IP properties with the command ipconfig /all

The window disapears in like one second, after I enter the command. The same thing happens when I do the trace, but only after it completes the trace
first. Im not sure what that problem is. Might be a setting in my registry doing that to me. |
