Please help with my high ping problem, thx!
Hi all,
I'm having a problem getting onto an SOF2 server that I really enjoy. I used to be able to get on, but something seems to have changed, not sure if it's my side or the server's side, but it says my ping is too high. Here's the TCP analysis: « SpeedGuide.net TCP Analyzer Results » Tested on: 01.08.2008 20:50 IP address: 67.158.xx.xxx TCP options string: 020405ac01010402 MSS: 1452 MTU: 1492 TCP Window: 31944 (multiple of MSS) RWIN Scaling: 0 Unscaled RWIN : 31944 Reccomended RWINs: 63888, 127776, 255552, 511104 BDP limit (200ms): 1278kbps (160KBytes/s) BDP limit (500ms): 511kbps (64KBytes/s) MTU Discovery: ON TTL: 51 Timestamps: OFF SACKs: ON IP ToS: 00000000 (0) I'm on DSL, I think it's a 3 meg line. I'm also hooked up via a wireless router, Realtek RTL8187 Wireless 802.11g I'm also wondering if my high ping would have anything to do with my installing a program called VMWare on my computer. It puts a virtual drive on it and I was running Linux. Not sure if this program is running in the background, or if that would affect it at all. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not an expert with anything when it comes to computers, so please bear with me. Thanks, mrcards |

Thanks for your help trogers! My ping has dropped from 250-300 down to 190-200. Is there anything else I should try? Here's the updated trace:

If you are on a wireless connection, try the tips in the Wireless section of our forum:
http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=203247 If wired connection, ensure your router and modem are placed a few feet apart and that both are a few feet away from all other electical devices.
