Hi,
I'm using Verizon as my ISP and I have DSL. I'm using a Westell 6100 modem. Here's the problem: I use RapidShare a lot and I've notice that when I upload a 100MB file, it takes 24 hours! Before, it never took so long. I thought it was my modem so Verizon sent me a new one and I still had the same uploading issue. The technician went over some tests with me and found that the modem wasn't at fault. It was something in Windows XP. So, I found this program called Winsockxpfix and it made some changes to the registry. The program is supposed to fix changes made by registry cleaners. I do use Registry Mechanic and the registry fixer in CC Cleaner once a week or so. I guess those two programs altered something. I can't say for sure so I've stopped using them. After using Winsockxpfix, I used Tweak Master to make some registry changes to speed up my Internet browsing. I'd have to say that worked but I'm still having uploading issues. So my sage forum members, what tests do you need from me or what other information can I offer to get this behind me. I can't seem to find a solution and other have tried to help me in other forums. It's a complete mystery. |

What speed did you pay your ISP to give you?
Post your TCP Analyzer report.

I paid Verizon to give me 3Mbits download speed and I forget the upload. Several tests show my upload at 253kb/s on average.
Okay, I know you're going to roll your eyes at this one but where can I find this TCP analyzer? I Googled it but I didn't see anything I could download. Could you offer me a link of some kind? Sorry about that. |

Go to the main page of this site, you'll find it somewhere near the bottom on the lefthand side.

Thanks. Now I feel like a bigger fool than when I started.
Here we go: Code:

I'm sure you know that the speed is always slower for UP than Down.
Here in the UK the speed you pay for is seldom the speed you get, and mostly we're offered 1Mbps, 2Mbps or 'Up - to' 8Mbps... I've never seen 3Mbps. That said, you may be interested in these typical figures from the UK. Rough Speed Guide ADSL Speed Typical Download Typical Upload 512Kbps 460 Kbps 200-240 Kbps 1Mbps 920 Kbps 200-240 Kbps 2Mbps 1840 Kbps 200-240 Kbps 8Mbps 7150 Kbps 400-750 Kbps

Try the following with TCP Optimizer:
General Settings tab: Custom settings - check Modify All Network Adapters - check network adapter selection - your NIC MTU 1500 TTL - 64 TCP Receive Window - leave blank MTU Discovery - Yes Black Hole Detect - No Selective Acks - Yes Max Duplicate ACKs - 2 TCP 1323 Options: Windows Scaling - uncheck Timestamps - uncheck Advanced Settings tab: Max Connections per Server - 10 Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 20 LocalPriority - 1 Host Priority - 1 DNSPriority - 1 NetbtPriority - 1 Lan Browsing speedup - optimized QoS: NonBestEffortLimit - 0 ToS: DisableUserTOSSetting - 0 ToS: DefaultTOSValue - 80 MaxNegativeCacheTtl - 0 NetFailureCacheTime - 0 NegativeSOACache Time - 0 LAN Request Buffer Size - 32768 Then select "Apply Changes" and reboot to take effect After reboot, post a new TCP Analyzer report to see if your MTU increases.

I spoke to a technician about that and he said the same thing. I guess I'm so close that I don't mind the difference. But that upload speed is absolutely driving me insane and I don't want to reformat just to fix a problem. There has to be a better way than that.

And just in case you're feeling hard done by...
![]() I'm paying for 'up-to' 8Mbps and am currently getting:- 135 Kbps Down (yes K) and 448Kbps up.

Post a new TCP Analyzer report. We need to see what MTU value you have to recommend a TCP Window value.

Rerun the last settings I gave. Your MTU should become 1492 and TCP Window 63888.

The reason I did not set MTU to 1492 in the TCP Optimizer is that your comp will change it to 1484.
Thus I used 1500 as MTU in anticipation that your comp's MTU will change to 1492. But TCP Window should be set to 63888. I suspect your use of Tweak Master may be actively limiting adjustments by TCP Optimizer. Uninstall Tweak Master and clean your registry with CCleaner. Then reboot comp and use TCP Optimizer only.

I uninstalled TweakMaster and ran ccCleaner. Here are the new results:
Code:
« SpeedGuide.net TCP Analyzer Results » Tested on: 01.06.2008 17:29 IP address: 96.232.xx.xxx TCP options string: 020405ac01010402 MSS: 1452 MTU: 1492 TCP Window: 65535 (NOT multiple of MSS) RWIN Scaling: 0 Unscaled RWIN : 65535 Reccomended RWINs: 63888, 127776, 255552, 511104 BDP limit (200ms): 2621kbps (328KBytes/s) BDP limit (500ms): 1049kbps (131KBytes/s) MTU Discovery: ON TTL: 54 Timestamps: OFF SACKs: ON IP ToS: 00000000 (0) |

Run the last TCP Optimizer settings I gave and see if MTU remains at 1492 and TCP Window sets to 63888.
