Question Can You Answer My Questions?????

Please move if in wrong forum. Thanks

Hi all. I've been running speed tests for a few months and I find my average download speed is around 8500kb/s and upload is 2400kb/s.

Ping is 30-40ms

I have comcast cable internet.
Pent 4 2.4GHz processor
750MB Ram
Intel 865 chipset
Gateway, so I don't think I can overclock.
Intel 82865G graphics controller (upgrade soon )

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on TCP configuration?

And also how you would set up utorrent?

I run zonealarm pro firewall.

I try to just read as much as I can but occasionally I need to ground myself and establish a solid reference point.

Thanks.......................nf

I assume you are running windows XP....

Going to have to setup\determine what port uTorrent will be using..

Options -> Prefrences -> Connections

Pull the port from there.

Zone alarm, if it does its job, should interfere with this port. You will probably have to add an exception in the program to allow the port to go through. If it gives the option, I would say best bet is for TCP(over UDP) and bidirectional. I do not know the program so I could not explain further.

You may also have a software firewall running, windows does have 2 built in. Zone alarm may disable one and I believe the other should be off by default.

Access windows firewall by going into your control pannel and double clicking the icon for Windows Firewall. There should be an exceptions tab, need to make sure utorrent is listed there as an exception.

The other, you need to get to your network connections. On the device your using to connect, right click and goto properties. The listing for "This connection uses the following items" you want to select tcp\ip and click the properties button. Click the Advanced Tab. Go into the Options Tab. Highlight TCP\IP Filtering and click properties. You can turn it on or off by checking the check box there. If you want to allow ports and block all els, you should check Permit Only and add in port numbers. I wouldn't recommend enabling this unless you really need it.

If you have a modem/router you probably have an inbound firewall running on that meaning it will allow you to go out and request the data but will not allow you to get it. Some may have an inbound/outbound but the only one I can think of is a 2 wire modem, I believe some have a bidirectional firewall.

To unblock the firewall on a modem/router, there is a pretty extensive listing at portforward.com. Should include pictures to guide you.

Your speed is already above 8.5 mbps.

Follow this guide to allow uTorrent through ZoneAlarm pro:

That will depend on the speed you paid to get? If it is more than 10 mbps, then no! If less than 10 mbps, then yes!
