I stopped tweaking my connection a long time ago after reading WinXP has a self tuning tcp/ip stack. I used to use Cablenut and the Cablenut .ccs generator to fine tune registry settings. Oh how my mind has changed (more below).

I haven't visited Speedguide in a while so I figured I would stop by the forums. Headed over to the tweaking forum and noticed a new TCP Optimizer 2.0.2 beta was out. Decided I would give it a shot for entertainment value.

I am on Comcast HSI 4000/384 kbps basic package (or so I thought). Running a speed test from dslreports.com/stest, downloading a 5.9 MB file usually results in an avg of 3500/300 kbps (which is good, aroun d 90% rated speed) speeds with windows default settings..

After running TCP Optimizer on optimal setting with slider on 4000 and running about 10 seperate tests from dslreports, my speeds have gone up to and over 4000/300 and a number of times reached over 5000 kbps (see below)! I had not known my bandwidth increased ISP side.

Absolutely incredible. I had rarely met 4000 kbps prior to running the optimizer and now I'm surprised if I don't get at least 4000 kbps (haven't had less since the 10 or so runs after tuning the stack). After using TCP Optimizer's optimal setting I'm receiving over 100% of rated speeds.

records: best runs since tweaking comcast 6000/384 (cache cleared, legitimate results):

5855/324 kbps - 731.8 KB/s (during non-peak hours)
5424/337 kbps - 678 KB/s (during peak hours!)

I'm now getting speeds like I'm supposed to as opposed to 2000kbps less with XP default values.

I was getting a little suspicious again. There is no way on earth I can be getting an upwards of 2000 kbps faster download speeds on Windows XP Home SP2 just b/c of a tweaking TCP Optimizer program.

To ensure that the results were not some sort of a mistake I reran the test, this time resetting TCP stack values to windows defaults in TCP Optimizer and rebooting..

Here are teh results. 2869 / 314 with windows default settings.

I then set the values back to optimal for 4000 kbps in TCP Optimizer beta and here are the confirmed new results. 4546 / 337 with TCP Optimizer (with slider on optimal for 4000).

The speed increase is confirmed! I have just received a virtual bandwidth upgrade. Games just feel smoother, downloads are going a good 100 KB/s faster on average. This is just too amazing. Wow. Now I can save the 20USD/mnth on upgrading to Comcast pro and put it towards something else.

I tried Windows' self tune stacking RWIN at 17520. That sure didn't work for me and made my connection slow and laggy. I decided to give TCP Optimizer a try after reading the reviews on Cnet. After I reboot the PC, my connection got faster and faster. Before I did the tweaks I got 2.2Mbps down and 515 Kbps up. Something closer to those numbers. My connection would lag and get kind of slow that I couldn't play games, surf pages, listen to audio and watch video clips online, etc. After I ran TCP Optimizer and did those tweaks, I have been getting 4207Kbps down and 517Kbps up. Not bad for a rated 4000/512 cable Internet
connection, the connection and computer doesn't lag anymore. I'm going to try the rest of the tweaks from this page and see what else I could improve on. But looks like I'm already tweaked out.

I was having really slow downloads on my Dell Latitude laptop compared with my tower. Normally around 3.8-4.2 Mps (cable) speeds on the tower and 1.5MPS or less on the laptop. I downloaded and used TCIP optimiser and BINGO, the laptop is just as fast now. I was really frustrated on finding a way to fix the problem and the settings changed did it all. Great little program, it even improved the 2 non-laptops on my network some. Keep up the good work

I have to be honest with you...I didn't think TCPOptimizer would really make THAT much of a difference for my connection. I just upgraded from 1.5Mbps dsl to 3.0Mbps. When I was first testing my new connection I was a little disappointed at the 2180 something result I was getting on the dslreports test. So I figured I'd try the program out. Nothing to lose...it let me back up my current settings before running it.

I ran it, rebooted and headed to dslreports to test my speed again. Holy mother of...well...my result was 2982. Thank you for this! When I tweaked my previous connection I had to do it all by hand searching for each registry key and experimenting. With TCPOptimizer it was just load the program, choose optimal settings and apply changes. Done.

Wow, I'm surprised too that TCP/IP optimization is still such a big thing. I haven't bothered since XP seemed to be pretty fast. Maybe I'll give it another try.

One thing I have noticed is that more and more web pages are going to a more complex and data intensive structure....because of this, we can use all the speed we can get just to surf the web at a nicer speed.

Strange......I registered at this site a long time ago, but then spaced it off till yesterday.

Don't laugh, but I'm running an Earthlink ADSL line through a PIII-550 unit. I'm capped at 1500kbps down/700up.

I'd been using Cablenut for quite awhile, but with ever increasing surfing hangs/reboots over the last few months. Nothing I tried had any effect. Last week I even dared to flash the BIOS to no avail.

Yesterday I decided to delete all the Cablenut tweaks and revert to square 1. Amazingly, the rest of the web session went without a problem. Then I ran some speed tests from different locations around the country. I got wildly variable results in download speeds...anywhere from 400 to 1000 kbps.

I then googled for "broadband tweaks" and got TCPOptimizer among the leading returns...(hmmm...THAT sounds familiar......)

clicked to THIS site and my memory was refreshed. Downloaded TCPOptimizer and applied the basic optimal settings...then ran some more speed tests......

NOW I consistently get download speeds approaching 1300 kbps and upload speeds around 650 kbps!!! The main thing is that my connection and system aren't freezing, either.

The main difference I see between the TCPOptimizer and Cablenut OS/connection tweak sets is the RWIN values and the fact that Cablenut changes a LOT of values.

Anyway...so far so good......I'm going to continue experimenting with the TCPOpimizer (tonite I'm trying out the MaxMTU tweak)......I'll let yah know!!!

I have been on rr.com/cox.net for 6years and it been getting slower and slower
all the time becouse of all the people on my node. So I decided to try TCP Optimizer and WOW is rite I havent seen speeds like this in a long time...
I love it becouse I'm allways sending and receving large files from people in my company.. and is great not to have to wait all day..

i'm kinda new to the tcp optimizer program and will probably be asking alot of questions. here is what i have done so far, i downloaded the sg_webtweak_2k and sguide_tweak_2k patches and installed them both to my registry, rebooted my pc and loaded up this site and man did it ever fly with ease. haven't quite figured out the optimizer proggie but gonna give it a whirl. thankx to who ever came up with the idea of all these tweaks and proggies, i am very gratefull that they are free to download and use with the way the world is with money these days. there are a few poor people still in this world, lol. THANKX SpeedGuide.net!! i also ran a speed test from this site and here are my results

Basically TCP optimizer worked well for me because windows default RWIN value is poor for my connection. I have a high latency broadband connection. The default RWIN value is optimal for low latency networks. Using XP's default values I got 4Mb speeds and using a corrected RWIN value allowed for the full 6Mb. Some DSL users may not notice as big of a gain as myself simply because the default values are in a close approximation of what they should be.

I haven't played with TCP Optimizer in a while.. Just loaded it up on my work PC..

My test results from speakeasy.net:

BEFORE TCP Optimizer: avg download = 23,058 kbps upload = 10,033 kbps
AFTER TCP Optimizer: avg download = 24,447 kbps upload = 12,591 kbps

Nice little boost! as if I really needed it..

Actually, for others who might be reading this as well... The Analyzer is not a speed test, the lines quoted above are calculation of the maximum potential theoretical speed you can achieve using those settings.

Just downloaded and spent 30 seconds doing nearly nothing with the optimizer. Before optimizing my connection was clocked at 5327kbps down, after optimizing it jumped to 6828kbps.

GREAT program... all i can say is wow.


now to customize
