Question Shaw@home cable in British Columbia..

Hi,

Is anyone here also from B.C. and use Shaw@home cable?

If you do, what average download speeds you get in kilobytes per second?

I just got cable a week ago and I get about 170kilobyte per second from sites such as download.com and softseek.com..

I'm not sure if I'm that's low or high for shaw.

That seems a little slow, although I have noticed that things have been a little slow today. which OS are you using and are you using the OS defaults or the speedguide tweaks? Try typing in www/download, click on install 12 and follow the directions?
One more thing - are you using SHAW's software?

I'm using WIndows 98 second edition.
I'm using the OS's defaults and no, I haven't installed any tweaks from this site yet.... I'm still thinking over it ....because some say it hardly improved anything... I had the shaw software installed... but I uninstalled it..

I'm from bc and i have had shaw for about 1 year (since jan)

and that speed seems to be around average for me i have got as high as 700kbps

but usally around 120 to 250 kbps

the prblem with shaw is that the connection goes for a dump from time. dial up is a more reliable connection I currently run both cuz shaw is too unreliable. shaw is great when it works .
u might wanna put shaw tech support on your speeddial or whats worse is you memorize the #like me.

if your speed stays that consistant I would say you are doin ok ! * note> shaws advrtz says 100x faster than dialup i think thats based on a 28k dialup so if you want you could call them up and say "where the hell is my remaining 110kbps?" then they will say sumin like " well its wher you connect too the server cant upload fast enough or its congested. "try downloading from shaw @home site see what your speed is!

Gl Randy
p.s i got rid of the shaw software too!~ it was conflicting with online gameing somehow
