Zonet ZEW2500P USB -> 802.11b/g network adapter

just passing on a good experience with a no-name product that proved itself to me.

inexpensive USB 802.11b/g wireless nic. im sure the customer support is lacking as its a no-name brand, BUT...

easy install (have tried on XP x86 and win7 x64. easy peasy in both cases). holds a connection well and throughput compared to the (fairly lackluster) Dell 1397 wireless nic in my lappy is also great. a recent customer review at newegg expressed incompatability with win7 64bit, but thats a pantload of peanuts. there may be some hardware compatability issues i havent run into, but as far as the OS is concerned it was seamless in my experience.

docs are minimal and the english isnt perfect, but to a tech theyre more than ample. packaging is acceptable. install package gives the option to install driver only or driver + their wireless manager (yay!!!! i cant tell you how bad i wanna buy the software engineers a drink on that one. choices makes my inner geek smile), as well as the option to use MS zero effort config tool or their config tool.

the fact that you can set the unit on top of the comp case makes sense. the machine is no longer a factor when it comes to EMI/obstructions between AP and the wireless nic.

anywhoos... set up 3 of these yesterday, and i was impressed. and i will say that this is probably the first time i have ever walked away from a wireless job without being irritated at the technology. for what its worth, i ordered one for myself today, and i dont really have a need for one.

bottom line? for <$25, this one's a winner IMO.

thx bud, thats not a bad idea. i have no pics to speak of, but i could expound on my input above a little. may do that over the weekend during the brief periods of sobriety.
