Thread: one slow connection, one fast connection, same network!

Question one slow connection, one fast connection, same network!

    Hello,

I have a really strange problem here.
    Three computers on @home account.

One computer(winxppro) has the direct connection, the other two(winxppro and win98) are connecteced with windows ICS and a hub.

The two computers that are connected through ICS get download speeds of +-300kb/ (same file) but the computer that has the direct link to the net can't get this file faster than 2kb/s !!!

All downloads are terrible slow on this computer and overal browsing is slow also while the other two are faaaaaast. I was bothering @home with this for a long time till I found out yesterday when downloading from one of the other pc's that they were blistering fast and the connection was good.

I can't see anything wrong on the computer so my next step is reinstalling windows on it but I am still hoping there is a better way to solve this.

    Thanks!
    Domenico

btw. I allready used the patches and optimize found on this site but nothing works.

Sounds like you got one big mess of a network there =\ You might want to look into a router. I'm not very fond of ICS myself, so I have no suggestions for you about ICS. On the other hand, let me tell you the advantages to a router.

-Easy to set up (possibly easier than ICS because I never got it to work, and I really don't want to now that I have a router.)
-Stand alone piece of hardware; now you dont have to rely on your computer having to be on 24/7 just so your others can surf the net.
-Now that your computer isn't on 24/7 you'll save quite a bit on your next electric bill

Thanks for the reply but it is allready solved.

The network card connected to the cable modem was set to full duplex. I set it too half duplex and now I can surf again with speeds upto 900kb/s.

I was surfing with full duplex on for months.
