Fan keeps running when cmptr is off.

The cooling fan keeps running after I've shut down the computer. The LED light on the CD flashes too. I've been unplugging the tower, but is this problem serious? Any ideas what could be causing the fan to keep running? I've done a thorough virus, spyware, PestControl check and all come up fine. Holding the power button for a few seconds when turning tower off only reboots. What I've been doing is turning off the power bar for about 5 seconds, then back on. The fan does not kick in this way. Is this harmful to circuitry?
Please give me a clue on what you think is going on.
    thanks in advance.

Thanks for your response. When I checked the BIOS, Power Management was set at 'User Defined'. Is that what you're referring to?

    Try disabling it in BIOS.

Go to the control panel and look in Power options. Under the advanced tab are two options for "Power Button", if one or both of these are set to hibernate this may be your problem.
I don't know the same things you don't know.

The Dude, There are only these two (unchecked) options in Power Mangement>Advanced tab:
Always show icon on the taskbar.
Prompt for password when computer goes off stand by.

Poptorn, Can't be disabled, or (more likely) I don't how to.

In the power management section of the BIOS, select "user define". That may give you the option to disable each mode.

What PSU are you using? Are your fans connected directly to your PSU or are they connected to your mobo?

My guess is your fans are connected to your PSU directly and you have a PSU shorting or is always on...

How hot is your PSU to touch?

Problem solved. It was dust. I sprayed and vacuumed inside the tower and now the fan shuts off.
    Thanks for your help all.

Hey, glad it works. I wouldn't have suspected that.

Do you ever dust the inside of your monitor case? Seems to me it ought to be really dusty given all the air vents it has.
