    Gaming problems eek!

I just got GTA3 and I have a major problem! When I play the game it freezes every second making the game look really really jerky some of my other games are like this aswell especially when I just triked vulpine it was freezing every frame!

I'm using windows 2000,(via4in1 14.37)(detonator 28.32 drivers) (refresh rate is at 100hz), (4x AGP), (64Mb aperature size), (Gfx card on IRQ11) rest of specs in sig I've turned off all overclocks and it didn't help.

*EDIT* Just tried playing it on my Windows Me Partition and it ran fine there was a few slow downs at first which I am putting down to my hard drive but apart from that it ran smooth as silk??

What should I do?? re-install of windows 2000 or anythgn else you can suggest?? It must have happened recently beacuse I had been running 3DMark2001SE a lot last week and didn't notice any of these freezes I'm getting?

    Thnx.

Not sure if I can help you.. didn't grab GTA3 yet.

Just a comment, I found the 4.38(a) VIA drivers MUCH better than the 4.37s

yea the 4.38s include a new agp driver.. try them. next try running the game in compatibility mode (right click the short cut, properties, compatibility tab..set it to windows 98)..if that doesn't work reinstall the game.

Re-installed windows 2000 on the primary partition, Tried GTA and vulpine and unfortunatley the problem was still present. I then went back onto my windows Me partition to play GTA3 to find that the same problem was now occuring under Me also?????

Now I'm left with a total feeling of WTF!!!!!!!!!

have you tried rolling back your driver? Are you using the same driver on your ME partition? After countless tries with all the "new" drivers off of www.doom9.net, I eventually reverted to the 23.11 driver from the Nvidia site and it has proved to be the most efficient for me. It hasnt helped my frame rates at all, but my games run like they were meant to!!

Also, when you installed the 28.32...did you make sure to uninstal your previous driver first? Driver stacks can lead to goofey outputs from time to time.

My system runs win2k/xp on seperate partitions with a gf2 ultra and using the 23.11 has proven to be a good move for me. you may also want to try implementing the RivaTuner from doom9. it takes a few specific settings to set it up, but i was getting over 180fps with it at one time (in unreal tournament).

Also try playing with both your ingame and desktop resolution and color depth settings. Match your game to whatever you have set on your desktop and also play around with the settings to see if they make any differences.

Hope somehting here helps otherwise I typed all that for nothing!! O well, im at work so at least I got paid for it. Good luck.
