    Need to upgrade

Currently my ADSL line is at 6.0Mbps / 384Kbps through SNET (Yuck) I am using a Speed Stream 5260 modem and UGate 3200 router.

I am basicly maxing everything out and was wondering if I upgraded any of the hardware if I would pick up any increase in speed (I run a server off this).

For the router I am looking at a Nexland ISB Pro 800 turbo router which has had very favorable reviews and think this might help a bit. I have no idea about the modem or if replacing it would help.

Also would like to increase my DSL but realize that I would have to go do SDSL. Any recommendations for lower CT? Any other suggestions?

    TIA

    ...Steven

I am running the nexland pro 800 turbo. I have it set up on Roadrunner cable with 2 IP's. All I can say is you will not be sorry if you get one . The bigger the load the faster it get's.

Well Steven here what I would do. I would. Order the nexland pro800 turbo. Then I would add another Dsl line at 6 mb/s down 384 up. That would give your network a total of 12 Mb/s down and 768 up. I don’t know how many computers you have on your network but it would work like this. Let’s say you have 10 computers. Then each computer could down at 1.2 MB/s at the same time but the Max on any one computer can be only as fast as the max on one dsl modem. It works the same on up loads. In other words it would double your speed on the network. If you had two computers each computers could down at 6 MB/s each at the same time.same with up. with one computer max would be 6MB/s down and 384 up.
PS: With the nexland turbo pro 800 I can blow by my 2 MB/s cap like it not even there.

A 12mbps line would max out at about 1.5MB/sec. There's no way 10 computers could download at 1.2MB/sec simultaneously.

Steven, what kind of a server are you running?

Theoretically If you have 12 MB/s bandwidth and 10 computers each computer would have 1.2 MB/s of bandwidth to used for each computers (Theoretically)
also you would not have one line at 12MB/s you would have 2 lines at 6MB/s each. Would they download that fast ? No . would it be a fast network? yes.
How does a 12MB/S LINE MAX out at 1.5MB/s ?????

Your getting your bits and bytes mixed up.

Networking, USB and firewire products, along with internet access packages (this applies to everything- DSL, Cable, T1, T3, etc., etc.), are noted in bits. For example, a 100 megabit per second NIC or a 768 kilobit per second dsl connection.

Steven currently has a 6mbps (megabit per second) connection which, without factoring in overhead, would result in 750KBps (kiloBYTES per second or ROUGHLY 3/4 of a megaBYTE).

In the same way, a 12mbps (megaBIT per second) connection would be about 1.5MBps (megaBYTES per second) or twice as fast.

Of course, this isn't always reality as there is overhead, network/internet congestion, etc. etc.

Even on a local 100mbps (or 12.5MBps) network, it's rare that such speeds (100mbps that is) will ever be reached with current hard drives and system bandwidth.
