er could be either an IRQ conflict or perhaps your USB port isn't providing enough "juice" to power the mouse. I tried using a USB powered DSL modem on my old system only to find out the hard way that USB devices are notorious for needing more power than the ports can supply.

there are USB hub/power port things you can buy to alleviate the problem but who wants to spend more than they have too?

    anyone else have any ideas?

give us some specs on your PC...how old is it and what mobo and PSU size do you have?

Unplug the mouse, install the latest IntelliPoint drivers and reboot. Once you're back into Windows, plug the mouse back in and it should auto-detect it.

Didnt it come with a usb-ps/2 converter? I cant think of any reason to run a mouse in usb, since usb devices slow down your memory bandwidth.

It's interesting. Run a memory benchmark with usb devices in, and then pull them and reboot. Run the test again and you'll be shocked at what you've gained.

just buy a converter unless u have some free support, cuz MS phone service is expensive when u consider its just a mouse

Never knew that...I figured optical mice required USB to function. Any idea on how much of a drag it would be on the bandwidth?

listen bro...I got a real feeling it's your USB port not providing enough juice. You say you have it lighting up and whatnot but then it won't work right. Sounds exactly like my old DSL modem...it would power on...run a for a bit then conk out for 45 seconds or so...kick back on and run a bit then konk out. I don't know what a USB converter is but if it's one of those power hub things then that's what you need. Or get a moiuse that doesn't plug into USB.

Wish I could be of more help

    hmm

go for the USB to PS/2 converter. It'll be your best bet on getting it working properly. Also does your mouse require batteries?

Thanks for the info...I used the PS/2 connection, it works just as quickly and my memory went from 1957/1957 on Sandra to 1980/1978. Not a huge jump, but still!
