    Question Bandwidth black hole

As a 56k user bandwidth is life blood. Often the data transfer receeds to nothing and then disconnection. This occurs especially if there is a brief period of inactivity. If I launch " MultiProxy" and sometimes, " WebFerret" the bandwidth is regained. Any comments or suggestions appreciated.

    System: Win98; IE ver:6.0
How far must the insertion be before we notice it? When is it to late?

    Welcome to SpeedGuide!

Well, my thoughts are that Win98 works best with IE5.01 SP2...
IE6 really was made for Win NT family, not 9x...

And as Jessie said, uninstall any browser add ons, such as download accelerators, etc...

Are you using a firewall? An updated AntiVirus?
    Have you checked for trojans?

    Go to "Start">Run> type
    msconfig
then click enter, now click on "start up" tab...
This shows what runs at start up, uncheck any that are not necessary...

Next time your bandwidth drops to nothing,
Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and see what is running or freezing up...

I am going to send you to Software Forum and wait for your response, as I have a feeling this is software related...

You might also try adding the line s10=60 to your "extra settings" box (where init strings go) it will help you stay connected it there is a dropout.

    Thanks Ken,
Problem is intermitent which makes me think it is the ISP leaving band width to the biggest hammer.
