1/4 Speed after switch from CyberSurfer to SB4100?

I just installed a new SB4100 to replace my original rented Motorola CyberSurfer non-docsis modem. Now my dl speeds are about 25% of what I had:
    Before:
    2877/112 kbps vron1.nj.home.com
    After:
    717/116 kbps narltn1.nj.home.com

I checked the modem diagnostics at 192.168.100.1 and everything looks good: 32db s/n, -3 dBmV power level, 64 QAM (s/b 256?). My pings look good and have no rexmits on the tweak test.

An @home tech supposedly did a 'push' to my modem but this has not improved anything. The first tech said she couldn't access the Comcast network to do it. So I'm not sure they did anything. I am thinking about going back to the Cybersurfer. Any ideas what the problem is?

    Problem Solved

Hitting the reset to defaults button in the Modem's config screen and reinitializing the modem fixed the problem.

    Question Sb4100 reset?

Hello, I just purchased a SB4100 myself and everything is running just fine, except that my upload speed is slower than with my SB3100, I noticed you had accessed the config page for the modem ussing the IP address but I was unable to access this page? Is there any documentation on this Modem config page? Thanks

    SB4100 Configuration Manager

I am not aware of any documentation for the config page.

You should be able to access the config page through your browser at http://192.168.100.1/ . Make sure your browser is not set to use a Proxy - uncheck the proxy boxes in IE 5 or 6 from the browser main menu: Tools, Internet Options, Connections, Lan Settings - then it should work.

The config pages only allow you to reset and reboot the modem, everything else is diagnostic information. According to one of the @home techs, unplugging the modem for 5-10 minutes accomplishes the same thing as the reset.

What was your u/l speed before and after? The speeds on @home have been varying a lot for me lately, so it may be unrelated to the new modem.

I'm running a surfboard too, my question is, how did you find out about the config page????? Also I have my cable modem and router sitting side by side on a Large speaker. I haven't noticed any performance dropps, while the stereo is on, but would u recommend relocating everything?

    Thanks for the info.

    SB4100 info

I think I found the SB4100 info on a thread at www.dslreports.com. There is also this link that I think I got from the same place:http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...er/cmtips.html . It's long, but if you page through it you'll see the SB4100 as well as other brands config info.

I'm not a RF engineer, but as far as I know, magnetic fields from loudspeakers should not affect your cable modem or router. CRT displays and hard disk drives might be a concern though.
