i'm thinking about getting DSL, if i buy my own equipment,it seems i could be better off.

You're better off using your free modem, ethernet wire, and filters your DSL package comes with. Get a good Network Interface Card, and if it's PPPoE get RASPPPoE. Routers suck IMO.Originally posted by morebeer

I concur. DSL can be problematic (depends on the isp) adn you want to be able to have them support as much of your hardware as possible.

I do. I'll never use the "free" junk that arrives in your home install kit. Got my own modem (have 2, one for backup), my own NIC of course (desk full of 3COM's from work), and my own router (much preferred over performance cutting software sharing)
