    ATI here I come

After i get this quick PNY GeForce3 Ti 500 review done then it's ATI city

I've got a retail 8500 that will be here Tuesday, I will be taking a look at EVERYTHING about it, a whole article dedicated to the new drivers and what's going on with the r8500. I will have the special Half Life that has the TrueForm in it for me to test out, and other neat thingys. I have also been setup DIRECTLY with the person in the driver team at ATI who does all the stuff there and knows his ****. This guy basically IS the driver team hahaha. So i will be able to communicate any problems/questions/suggestions etc... directly to the head guy in the ATI driver team

Then after the 8500 i'll get to the 7500, but this is gonna be fun

plenty of work cut out for me with all this

Make sure you hammer him about how frequently ATI will be releasing drivers.

Also, touch on the quake/quack issue a bit.

Have fun with it. This card is a blast.

What the FUK are you talking about, face the FACTS, GF3 has more features AND better 3D quality, Radeon can only beat the GF3 in terms of speed either by cheating or later on if they REALLY tweak the drivers, Radeon might win FAIRLY.

You're the bias b!tch thinking the Radeon is all that.

Excuse me, but f()ck you hardware nazi.

All you do is troll troll troll. The only thing you know about hardware is what Anand and Tom feed you. And you have a really weak grasp of English.

Brent, what are you talking about, have there been PROOF that all the "extra" features on the Radeon have been able to produce a better quality than a GF3? Shadow buffers FOR SURE WILL improve visuals, and FOR SURE will be used in upcomming games. Yes, the Radeon has the POTENTIAL for more FPS, but who cares if you get 10fps more if your visuals look crappy??

i agree shadow buffers is a good and neat thing

but until wide spread support it's a moot point

for my reviewing and for the hardocp we aren't about "games in the future will use this or blah blah"

we are about "WHAT THE HELL WORKS NOW!" lol

but at the same time we look towards teh future, but we cannot dwell totally on the future because by that time ANOTHER vid card is out

That's why we must evaulate cards and games that are out NOW and what they do NOW not what they do 6 months from now

    That is the whole point.

The Radeon's IQ is immaculate! It has better pixel shaders and full DX8.1 support, as well as superior AA and truform for making even older games look good.

Why do you feel so threatened by this card???

Fukin PROVE IT, if the Radeon really DOES have better visuals than the GF3, there'll be proof EVERYWHERE

Why the hell should the burden of proof rest with me?

You havent backed up not one of your statements.

Pssh! Make me do all the leg work.

And besides. What is really bothering you here? The whole ATI vs Nvidia thing, or the fact that I am enjoying my card?

If it is the latter, then you really need to get a life.

i'll be geting to it all in about a week, i'm gonna start on it after Thanksgiving

Trueform has been shown already, and it does work and is good

SmoothVision has been shown already and is real good, much better then Quincunx on the GF3, Anand and others have tested this with the same results. Smoothvision ROCKS no doubt about that one.

    less blurring with smoothvision http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1558&p=6

    quincunx blurrs the whole screen

hey, neither method is perfect though

the only best one so far is the Voodoo 5's jitter method, and right now NVIDIA holds the tech on that one.... hopefully they will incorporate it in their NV30.....

hate to say it as i'm a nvidia fan but i went to a friend's house and he had both..we tried both, he had two different hdds w/ two fresh installs of winxp prof... 8500 vs gf3 ti500 (rich mofo) and the radeon looked better.. turned on 2x smooth vision and nature demo looked REAL ok.. i mean REAL dude i couldn't believe it, the GF3 looked great but it's a fact, the new drivers from ati unleased a crapload onto the GF3 heh. Yea, it's still 10 FPS behind the GF3 in most cases, but if it looks better, which is hard to see but it's there, then i'd rather have it.. which will i buy? I don't know, have to see if ati will continue their driver trend.. otherwise it's gf3 ti500 w/ vivo i go. i had to look hard btw.. but the ati nature demo just killed the gf3.. killed.. smooth vision .. mm. damn it looked good.. was just 2x too, we tried w/ and w/ out.. w/ was much better, and w/ 2x we had roughly a 30% performance drop (from 31 or 32 to like 21 or 22) so not bad at all.

We'll see I suppose, i keep changing my mind, i need to sleep on it more.
