New Hub or Router makes a difference ?

    Hey guys,

If were to buy a linksys router or a new hub say a netgear, would these type of upgrades increase my speed? Currently I'm using the modem that @home gave me, and my speeds seems to fluctuate alot, i'm assuming its due to packet loss and my modem is not very good at handling that. If I were to uprade, will it help my speed be more stable and perform better overall ?

What kind of experiences do you guys have with your top brands hubs or routers compared to your modem alone ?

    Any suggestions will help.

I'm also on @home and I didn't have any problems using just the modem. I average 3000-4000 KB/Sec down and 300 KB/Sec up. I recently added a Linksys Cable Router to share my internet connection with another computer at home but it did not increase speed. Do you have the modem connected to your USB port or to a NIC?

I can't imagine it would help. The data still has to go through the modem, so you'd still get the packet loss you had before. If you get a good router, things should stay the same. If you get a cheap router, it may slow things down.
It's better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
