Switch and Cable Modem Sharing

Can I plug my cable modem into my linksys switch's uplink port and share the internet with my roomate? I tried it and nothing worked...not even my internet worked to my main computer. ??

Or is a switch for networking mostly..and I need to get a router?

B.T.W Whats easier ....using sygate to share it...or ICS?

Get a second NIC, install it on your PC, download NAT router software from Tiny Software, connect your second NIC to your Linksys switch. Read through the help file in that piece of software, it's pretty straight forward. Of course, you can always inquire here about how to set it up.
