Thread: Crazy upload speed stuff

    Question Crazy upload speed stuff

    Kinda hard to explain, like most of my connection problems:

    For some reason I cannot upload faster than an average of ~20KB/s a to any one send, but If I were to open multiple connections to the same person, the sum of the sends speed would be greater than what it was at 1 send. The more connections I open, the greater the sum of the upload speeds. This happens with FTP (g6/serv-u) ICQ and IRC. Various speed test show my line to be around ~1.3mbps upload (averaged)
    and I can go that fast.. I just have to open about 10 different connections

    I'm running a Win2k Pro Box on an AMD K7 600Mhz 256MB Ram System w/ the following tweaks applied (copy/pasted from TCP/IP analyzer):

    TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402
    MTU = 1500
    MSS = 1460
    Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
    RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
    Unscaled Receive Window = 64240

    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

    MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
    Time to live left = 48 hops
    Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
    Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
    IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

    Please help thank you in advance..

    OK, with DR TCP try changing Tcp Recieve Window to 513920, 522680, or 524176

    Download to desktop DRTCP019.exe, you may change alot of settings with this, first select your adapter, after changing anything play with it until apply button lites up, then click on it. Then REBOOT for it to work.

    TCP options string = 020405b40103030301010402

    MTU = 1500
    MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

    MSS = 1460
    Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

    Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 513920
    RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 3 bits
    Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
    RWIN is a multiple of MSS
    Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
    256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
    128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
    64240 (MSS x 44)

    bandwidth * delay product:
    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 20556.8 kbps (2569.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
    Your RcvWindow limits you to: 8222.72 kbps (1027.84 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

    MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

    Time to live left = 48 hops
    TTL value is ok.

    Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

    Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

    IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

    I was told that my ISP could be doing something as stupid as capping my upload speed per-port? is this possible?

    I don't know, you don't have NIC card set on full duplex do you
    and NIC should be on IRQ by itself

    Most companies do that to save bandwidth.. evil isn't it?

    It might be the other end's problem. Your friend may get a slower connection and average 20K. You could possiably ask nicely to the company to lift the cap off, or you can go to the extreme and uncap. but Uncapping will get your internet services Terminated and possiably a few weeks behind the bars, and Since you are on Cable, it's pretty easy to detect if you uncapped or not. You can't uncap on your end, unless your internet service has some flaws though..
    Live to chase your dream...

    I have no idea what you are talking about
    And since you did not take time to fill out form when joining I know nothing about your system, you left no analyzer test results,
    so I have nothing to work with
