    AMD Makes A Huge Price Cut ! - Lars Olsen - Wed, Aug 15, 2001 - 03:17 PM

A big thanks to Tpot for alerting me about a silent but huge price cut made by AMD....especially on the 1.4GHz Athlon 266FSB....when compared to JC's Pricewatch CPU/DRAM Availability Scan....posted just yesterday....the average price for the this processor was US$144.75...now today you can get the 1.4GHz Athlon 266FSB at Newegg for just US$115...and at TCWO for US$121....Tpot also told me that at dabs in the UK...prices on this processor dropped from £155 to only £115...now that's quite a nice drop if you ask me....and I guess good for the consumers...this must be to counter Intel's recent price cuts....so if you want the fastest processor on the block....it has never been cheaper....here is a quote from JC's:

CATEGORY: Microprocessors PC Athlon 1.4GHz 266 FSB
    74 entries (7 pages)
    PRICES: 142+144+144+145+145+145+145+145+145+145+145+147
    AVERAGE: 144.75

    A $145 bucks for a 1.4 gig?

The word in the stock market has intel cutting their prices in half as an effort to compete with AMD. Looks like it this is a good time if you are an intel lover

    Hmmm

Average store price in Canada is still $265CAD for the 1.4ghz OEM and $234CAD retail for the 1.333ghz.

Will this chip work on a KT7E? If so, I'm glad I started out small with a Duron 800, I can go out and get a 1.4 GHz next week then, if I wait one more month they could be down to $100.

Woa... just checked prices now this is wrong

    AMD Athlon (T-Bird) 1.0 GHz OEM/Box $142/182
    AMD Athlon (T-Bird) 1.2 GHz OEM/Retail Box $183/202
    AMD Athlon (T-Bird) 1.333 GHz OEM/Box $199/234
    AMD Athlon (T-Bird) 1.4 GHz OEM $232

$232 for a 1.4ghz t-bird OEM?!?!?!? Cheaper then the 1.333 retail? Now it looks like it's time to buy buy buy!

    The KT7e/A

since it uses the same bios pretty much, can be used with the 1.4ghz cpu.
