networking Windows ME with Linksys router

just bought a new pc and would like to install 2 other pc's to share internet/file/and printer and need help. I have Sprint Satellite internet.

Since i'm running Windows Me, i was gonna use the "Home Networking Wizard" that comes with Me. Once ran, this program configures everything for a home network then puts the info on disk. From there, do you take that disk to the other pc's and run the wizard? OR do i run the Home Networking Wizard on all the pc's since all systems are running Me?

I understand you hook the ethernet cable from Sprint to the Wan port on the router then the other pc's get connected to the other ports.

Do i need to run the install wizard for the Linksys router or will running Me Home Networking Wizard set everything up for me?

Also, i understand all computers have to have the SAME workgroup name, but can have different computer names... correct?

After the network is fully setup, how do i enable these pc's to share files and one printer. Do i set printer and file sharing on all systems?

What protocols need to be installed on all pc's before i run the home networking wizard?

I have the Linksys Router model BEFSR41

Well, yes for the easiest way to browse network neighborhood and find other computers, it's quicker to have the same workgroup name. If you don't have the same workgroup name, you have to manually "Find" a computer.

Yes every computer has to have a unique name.

For the most secure protocol setup, use NetBEUI for file and print sharing, and just have TCP/IP loaded for internet use. Unbind TCP/IP from Client for MS and File and Print sharing, in the bindings tab. Leave NetBEUI checked for that.

For sharing, have the computer you wish to share something from load the "File and Print Sharing" service. Then all you have to do is right click what you wish to share (printer, folder, drive, etc), and share it.

You will not need Home Networking Wizard if you have a router.

I don’t know what service you are using, but you enter the information given to you by your ISP into the main Linksys set up page.

Try setting your system up like this.

Go to the Linksys Admin page.

Enable DHCP server
Starting IP Address 192.168.1.100
Click "Apply"
For each computer on your internal LAN set Network Settings as follows:
Under the IP Address tab for the TCP/IP properties for your NIC
Set "Obtain an IP Address Automatically"
Under the WINS Configuration tab set Disable WINS Resolution
Under the Gateway tab enter 192.168.1.1 in the New gateway field. Click add. 192.168.1.1 will then appear in the Installed gateways list.
Under the DNS Configuration tab select Disable DNS.
Click OK, then OK. Let your computer reboot.

On Internet Explorer Connection Options, I have "never Dial a Connection" selected. Under LAN settings I have nothing selected (Automatically Detect Settings, Use automatic configuration script and Use a proxy server are all deselected).

Why are you using a router if you are using windows ICS. Hook the modem right up to the ethernet on the router... and have fun. if your modem doesnt use an ethernet adapter.. return your router and save the money on something cheaper like a hub or a switch and then do ICS

as for ics.. just hook it up on the main computer, and just tell the other client computers just that they connect to a lan
