    CPU Dead?

    OK

I have been having problems with my puter for a while now. I changed out my mobo, power supply, and ram.

This fuc|<in thing still wont post or anything. It has to be the CPU right?

    The Question:

If your CPU is toast, will it startup at all? or will it just lay around like the 2000 dollar \/\/ hore it is?

    Anyway, thanks,

Turn the computer on. Pull the power plug from the back. Let set for 10 seconds. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. If it doesnt work, reset CMOS and repeat the above steps.

    Works for me!

it would probably be 1 of 3 things causing the symptom you describe. CPU, RAM, or VGA device. if any one of these items is not seated properly, defective, or has a compatability issue with other hardware (like the mobo chipset(s)), you will not make it to the POST screen. there is always the chance that the mobo is dead. you would not get to POST if that were the case as well.

i have also run into instances where a mainboard does not mate with the case perfectly (screw holes slightly misalligned), and one of the screws was shorting out one of the circuits on the board.

are you getting any beep-codes? do you have a case/system speaker so you could hear them if the CMOS is trying to tell you something (through beep-codes)?

Like smaier said, if you aren't getting any system beeps at all, then your system is fried. Also sniff the board to see if you smell a burned plastic kind of smell. and check the cpu for black marks.
Also make sure everything is plugged incorrectly. If you haven't plugged in the cpu fan into the proper cpu fan power outlet, some mobo's won't post. What kind of HS/F are you using? Another thing that might have happened is that you've chipped your cpu core.

Here is the best way to troubleshoot no post/no video

first unplug everything from the back of the system, including power cord, hold down the power button for 2 seconds, strip everything off the board except the processor and power, and the reset the power connector(s) and the connector from the control panel is plugged in, then plug the power in, if the power goes on listen for a beep code, if you get a beep code the mobo can see it does not have memory, if it doesn't it's probably a bad processor (because the mobo has been replaced) if it does give a beep code plug everything back in one part at a time(including cables and memory sticks) with unplugging the power cord, hold down the power button for 2 seconds, between adding each part.
when you find a part it does not post on that is the problem. Of course if you don't get power it could be a grounding issue.

Take your cpu and test it on a known working, compatible system...that will tell you for sure!

    Thanks

Thanks for the great advise guys. I will try them all. And to answer some questions, When I turn on my system now nothing happens(it reacts like it is not even plugged in).

    Thanks Again,

hmmm.... nothing as in nothing at all? no power supply fan? no nothing?

if thats the case, then i see 2 additoional possibilities. either a dead power supply or the power switch lead is incorrectly plugged into the case i/o header on the mobo. try switching its position or flipping it 180deg where it connects with the mobo.

Check jumpers! Especially the one that comes from the power switch. CHECK THE BASICS!!
