    Hangtimes with Roadrunner

This problem has been occuring for about 2 months now, I have gone all but insane with dealing with the Roadrunner "specialist technicians". And I guess the real kicker is that this problem is interminent.. but let me explain.

I run a netgear rt314, three computers access a Surfboard cablemodem that is routed. On all three computers, (all network settings are set properly to my knowledge) occassionally either while first accessing or during the use of any internet application there will be a 5 second to 3.5 minute "hang time" where there is no out going or incoming data, I have no clue as to what could be causing this.. any suggestions or similiar stories out there?

I am assuming this happens on all the computers, otherwise you would have said it was only happening on one. I would also assume that there is no problem with RR in your area, otherwise the Specialist tech should have known about it, though not always the case. After all my assumptions, seeings some more info from you would have been helpful, I would also have to assume that the problem is in your rt314 router. Try plugging just one of the computers directly to the modem and see if the problem persists. If the problem goes away, then you know it is in your router, get a new one. If not, then you know it is in the modem, assuming all you network configs are correct.

I may be way off on this because we all know that some RR techs are inbred.

    Hey Sp00n

I have the same problem, I also haver RR. It mostly happens when I shut down my computers of the computer have been IDLE for several hours (when the modem has not had any traffic for several hours)
Sometimes my hangtime can last as long as 15 seconds.
The same thing is happening on both of my puters so I know it is not that. I also have a Sys router. I have tried plugging the computer directly in the modem and no change.

I have worked with RR a few times but they can figure it out. I have just learned to deal with it.

Hey, I just keep thinking it could be worse, I could have dialup.
I just thought I would let you know that you are not alone out there I am in the same boat as you

I spoke with a technician a few days ago, and they stated that the power to the router in the area needed to be raised, its that, or my network is not doing its dns look up properly, I have a hard time believing this, esp. since when the modem is plugged directly into my computer, I still have the exact same problem.. Go figure.
