    Post Networking Newbie needs help

I'm deciding to get a 2nd computer and a second ip addresse from my cable modem service provider. well my question is what is the biggest diffrence from a router and a hub? Witch has more security best price and can i set up 2 computers up with sepertate ips this way? I also wish to share files between the computer and network games and such but only on occasions

    Hmm...

    I'd reccomend the following.

Buy a five port switch (less than 100 US and much faster than a hub) D-Link and Linksys make some nice ones.

Run one cable from the switch to the Cable modem, and one to each of the machines.

Enable NetBEUI on the machines for file sharing. Get a decent firewall (Zonealarm makes a free one) for protection on each machine. Enable file sharing between the two machines. Done.

    Lightbulb

Only enable sharing on folders that absolutely need to be shared, and use a strong password. Also make sure nothing is tick marked in TCP/IP-->Properties-->Bindings......
