Help setting up a new/old scanner

    Hi,

I had been using a nice little CanoScan Lide20 for quite a while but my sister sent me her HP Scanjet 4850 that scans slides and negatives so I've wanted to set it up and try it but I haven't got it yet. The Canon used just one USB cable for both power and data which is nice. The HP has a power adapter, a USB cable. I hitched it up and installed the software CD which I think has the driver but I didn't install the 450 MB photo editing scan software. I was reading online that people like the scanner but they hate this 450 MB of HP software. Anyway, I could not get it to work. I used the add hardware in the scanner folder and selected HP from a list of companies, and then clicked "have disk" but was not able to find the driver in the folder I thought I put it in. Can someone please tell me what I need to do to get this scanner working? It looks like a nice big scanner, about 3 times the size of my Canoscan. I'm curious to see how it does with negatives and slides. Thank you.

I just wanted to say that I've now got it. I had to install the 450 MB software and it guided me into the detection of the unit.
