Problem with Windows 7 on Asus MOBO

I have a huge problem with my aunts pc. The old harddrive died and when I put in any hdds with xp or vista or 7 the pc cant be rebooted or shutdown otherwise the hdd doesnt go into safe mode or actual windows. I have used my 1TB HDD Win7 x86 and it does the same thing. I have to always do a clean install and then leave the pc always running n turn off auto updates cause if it reboots it gets stuck in that loop. WTH is goin on?

Is the BIOS recognizing the drive and is it set as the primary boot drive? You may have something in the bios that is looking for the OS on the CD rom drive as the primary drive. It might be as simple as changing the boot order.

Well I'm looking at the pc now. It's a SATA harddrive plugin into the MOBO and the settings under IDE configuration have it set to SATA-PATA. Wat happens is, if you format the drive and and let the pc do the normal clean install and it reboots a few times it works. But after everything is done and you start installing AV, Browsers, other progs you cant reboot the pc. Once you reboot the pc it shows the Win7 logo n then immediately goes to Is Loading Windows files...says that it is attempting repairs, and that repairs are unsuccessful, click Finish n it shutdowns the pc.

I have ran Memtest and Windows Mem Diag and both are fine. Is it possible the mobo is F'in up and it could be the sata ports or sumthing else? Is it sumthing to do with the IDE configuration to use a SATA HDD? I mean it shows up in the bios as Primary IDE Master (_NEC DVD_RW) cause that uses the ASUS IDE cable, and if you remove it completely the HDD still does that Is Loading Windows yada yada. The SATA HDD is listed Third IDE Master.

The IDE Configuration is Config SATA As (Standard IDE) which cant be changed to anything different.

I have moved the harddrive into another pc and it boots the same way now. And if you use a working Win harddrive and try to reboot it screws up that drive as well. Why is this happening? The MOBO is an ASUS P5LD2-VM (AMIBIOS Version: 1303 | Build Date: 03/19/07) It keeps the correct date and time.

I have changed boot orders and even removed the cdrom drive and any HDD with a copy of Windows gets screwed up once its been rebooted. I got this Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically.

Seems to be every HDD is getting a Corrupt registry from just saying in the pc =/
