Static IP causes slow download speeds and random disconnects/high pings.

I currently have a Actiontec MI424WR Verizon FiOS Router. When I first got it, it was using DHCP/dynamic IP as usual. I had it for about 8 months now and suddenly now its using static IP. I'm pretty sure I have never asked for anything like this. Anyways now when I play games, I disconnect randomly and have huge lag spikes. Also it is impossible for me to download anything, speeds are now 2kbps-10kbps which is usually 1.7mbps. When I access my gateway, it says I'm still using DHCP but when I ipconfig /release, then turn off router overnight, then turn it on in the morning, I still have the same IP. I've tried disabling DHCP because I thought it was conflicting with static IP. It helped a little but still I can't download. -_- Help plz

How do you know you have a static IP, and that it is causing the issues ?
Static or dynamic IP should not make a difference. ISPs will only reissue the IP to someone else after an extended period of inactivity, if they need it at all. Even if the DHCP lease time expires, it does not mean you will get a new IP.

I'd definitely try to troubleshoot your problem and contact Verizon as well. A traceroute may provide some insight as well.
