    WiFi Access Point ?

    I need to set up a wifi access point.

    Here is the network configuration:

    Cable modem---> router ---> switch---wireless AP

    How do I hook the wireless AP to the switch? What settings do i use?

    Thanks

    You will need to run a Cat 5 to the AP from the switch. Then you will want to set the security to WPA2 Personal if it supports it. If not, WPA. If you are looking to connect it without a wire and use it as a repeater, It will need to support that and you will need an existing wireless network. Just to be clear, You want to add wireless correct? Not use it as a bridge

    Thanks for the reply. The wireless router (AP) has dd-wrt installed. I know how to secure it. For some reason i get no internet access when i hook it up. I read somewhere I need o turn off the DHCP server, so I did, and it didn't help.

    You already have a router attached to you cable modem and you add a wireless "router". Check first in the wired router if DHCP is enabled. Depending on the type of wireless device you sometimes have the option of putting this in Access Point mode. To make the connection to your PC work, check that the wireless network name is identical (ESSID), the wireless channel setting (in most cases this defaults to channel 6 or 11), the wireless network mode (802.11a/b/g or n) and the wireless security settings WPA, WPA2 also need to be identical in your pc and your wireless AP.

    You need to setup a static IP and enter the DNS settings from the original wireless router (as well as the subnet which I am guessing is 255.255.255.0).
