    Question SATA hot-swap enclosure

I have what appears to be an Intel 6 bay SATA hot-swap enclosure (circa 2006). It has the backplane and fan attached.

I sold the controller card so that's gone. Can I just connect power to the cage and then attached either 1, 2 or 3 SATA cables from my mobo to the corresponding connections on the backplane and use it that way or do these things require the controller card?
