The California Public Employees' Retirement System said this week that Malkenhorst, who had been the city manager for Vernon, would now receive $9,654 a month, after the pension fund preliminarily concluded that his $45,073 a month pension was "illegally based on unpublished pay rates, overtime and an inflated longevity allowance."

While my military retirement is paid from federal funds it pales in comparison to some of the pensions received by many State employees. The guy you are talking about makes more in 1 year than I do in 5! His original pension is more than I'd make in 25! Is it any wonder that nearly every state has enormous pension debt?

So now a little less than 120k a year. That seems reasonable for that area if hes been with the job for a long time.

It's part of the "Vernon" scandal out here. Vernon is a city with virtually no residents. It's all industrial, places like Alcoa etc. There is basically nothing to manage other than making sure all the business' pay their property and business taxes. I use to work in Vernon and there's nothing there, just huge industrial/manufacturing buildings.
