I've been noticing that when gaming online on my ps3 at times I am experiencing a very minor delay in during game play, not quite traditional latency, but a minor delay between communication from the controller to the game (only happens online).
PS3 is wired to my router-- nothing else wired to the router ( Siemens Gigaset se 567 I believe) UPnP is enabled.
laptop is wireless
I just test my pin to Toronto from my location ( ~ 1200 miles) on my pc I got 47ms with 1ms jitter but on my ps3 I got 78 ms with 12ms jitter. I retried the test several times and got the same results. Then I switched the ps3 to wireless and got pretty much the same results. My download speed is about 6.8mpbs and upload is about .550 mpbs and is the same on my laptop and ps3. My ps3 is connected to the router with a 50 ft ethernet cable. The router is only just on the other side of the wall a few feet away in the next room, but I couldn't drill through the wall so had to go with a long cable.
Can anyone suggest anything that might account for the difference? It seems like it might be an issue with the ps3?
Thanks in advance for any replies.
Dave
*** Update***
I did ping tests again and found the following results.
server in Ontario ~ 1000 miles away- ps3 78 ms, 12 ms jitter--- laptop 48 ms, 1 ms jitter
server in Utah ~ 3000 miles away- ps3 78 ms,12 ms jitter--- laptop 104 ms,1 ms jitter
I did a number of other ping tests on the ps3 and they all had the same results regardless of location, how can this be possible? Obviously I can't put much stock in these results. Should I generally assume that my ps3 would get a ping rate at least equal too ( if not faster) than my wireless laptop, considering the ps3 is wired directly to the router?
