Thumbs up I got the whole day off !!!

    This is great!

The wife took off with her kids and grandkids for a day in the mountains. I was asked if I wanted to go and there is no way in hell I'm driving on a holiday up to where they were going. There will be so many people that any actual "wilderness" experience will be totally lost. On top of that I didn't feel like wasting 2 hours in the car going there and then coming back.

So... cleaning the house, waxing the car, going for a run in the park, kicking back in the sunroom with a cigar and then fire up the BBQ and having a few hot dogs.

Don't get me wrong, I love my wife but I'm old enough where I don't want to spend a highly coveted day off with a bunch of screaming kids and spending 4 hours on the road. I come from a small familiy and when holidays come around everyone just does their own thing. We all love each other dearly but when I get a day off, that's what it is... A DAY OFF.

Yup I don't like traveling on holidays either....highways get too packed.

Dealt with crowds yesterday in a big bike run, time to chill today at home...sitting by the pool side drinkin' brews and getting some steak 'n shrimp 'n corn on the cob on the grill.

Yep, I hate driving for holidays.

We use to drive 10+ hrs. to Georgia from Fla. every Memorial weekend to spend with my girlfriends cousin and his family.

When I got there I was beat, and when I got home I was the same.

They're not speaking so now I get to stay home and relax and enjoy the holiday.

ya,we never go anywhere far/overnight on any holiday weekends,we have very flexible schedules for work and prefer taking trips on NON holiday times.

It was great! The wife had never been there before and she couldn't believe how beautiful it was. It really helped recharge my batteries. The plane home was diverted due to a medical emergency (2 hours out) and we had to turn around and land in HNL, so we got 1 night on American Airlines for free. When she saw how crazy HNL was she was glad we went to Kauai. I haven't been to HNL for about 30 years and I couldn't believe how much it's grown. I thought it was out of control back then... I wouldn't suggest it to anyone.

I try to push the same agenda with my wife but she's very close to her children and when they call, she goes. I keep suggesting doing it the day before or something like that but I never win.

I understand that. I've had more then one weekend totalled by too many people being in an area where there shouldn't be anyone. Wilderness camping turned horribly wrong.

The last holiday we spent with her familiy was somewhere out in the desert, it was 114 in the shade and it was a 1 1/2 hour drive in each direction. I lost points on that one, I was pissed off the whole day and the wife knew it. That was a total waste of a day.

Have the day off...but I always have Mondays off

Brought 3 of the dogs to the beach, romped through some massive dunes and dune forest.

Hit up the Chinese buffet on the way home.

    Burp.
