Hello,
I live out in the sticks, and I have a Wireless ISP. I've got a hard line running from my router to my computer though.
For the most part, my internet works good enough, but I'm starting to get into heavier online gaming... and the small annoyances with my regular habits are amplified by a bunch.
My connection quality seems to vary pretty wildly within the span of a few seconds... I know I have a variable speed connection, but my speed isn't what I am concerned with at the moment, it is my latency.
If I run the test here: http://www.speedtest.net/
My numbers vary wildly from second to second.. I've gotten as low as 70ms, to as high as 110, with my speed ranging from about .50mb/s, to over 2mbps. In games, where I can watch my ping constantly, it goes from about 140, sometimes up to 500+ within a few seconds within the same server. Most of the time, it is between 250-400 though.
My receivers mount is admittedly sketchy... we slapped it together out of parts I had left over from taking down a TV aerial. And it wiggles fairly freely in the wind.
So, I guess my question is, is this just part of the technology? Would making a more rigid antenna mount improve my wiggling performance? Are there pre-made antenna mounts I can buy? Or will a couple lengths of Schedual 40 Galvenized electrical conduit about 1"-1 1/2" strapped to the side of my garage be as good as anything?
Thanks.
