Like how the WD Essential USB drives will sleep until used.
Just looking for options. Wanting to find a drive to mate w/n66u router. Something that isn't powered on 24/7.
Thanks, all!

Heya, slackmeister!
I went with what I knew and dropped for one of the WD "My Book" (or however it spellt) drives. They behave as requested in this context.
I will go so far as to say the firmware on this router is actually pretty damn good. One of the few instances I wasn't spamming DD-WRT for an install link for na "home" router.
oh, and.... you missed a spot (no idea what that's supposed to mean)![]()

How the 66 working out? Mighty potent?
I'm going to skin my Cisco e3000 router with TomatoUSB "Toastman" edition this weekend.

Yeah, it's a pretty fast router. I don't have enough traffic to really push it's capabilities, but by far the fastest I've used. But the functions it has are pretty sick... VPN server instead of just passthrough, DDNS through ASUS, an actual configurable firewall, and FTP LAN/WAN server stand out. These things aren't unheard of, but the "Download Master" feature, where I can log into the router from work or wherever and have it download or torrent a file onto the attached storage, is quite clever, really. With the long weekend coming up I'll have more time to actually tinker with it.
I've read of Shibby (Tomato) being run on the 66. Never run that firmware before. Lotsa DD-WRT installs on other routers, though. Let me know how Tomato works for ya. I may give that a whirl.
