There are some here that would argue that it does make the news. Only that the stories become back page articles or exist on alternative outlets. NPR has regularly mentioned many of the stories on the aforementioned list.

I can barely stand to watch television anymore. As for alternative news outlet, I first try learn their perspective in order to know their filters.
