And why do you think that? Personal preference, personal experience, reviews, why? I’m looking to build another RAID5.

I'm not up on RAID cards but I would look at Adaptec, Areca, and Intel cards.
HP Smart Array controllers are my favorite by a longshot. But they're rather specialized to work in HP Proliant servers.
Dells PERC controllers are a close 2nd.
As for generic cloner RAID cards....Adaptec and Areca are OK.

What does SAS stand for?
I seen some cheaper cards, but in no way can I afford $1000.00 for a RAID card!![]()

I've had a lot of excellent experiences with HighPoint cards.
Well, you did ask for "the best"....they can go into a couple of thousand bucks.
SAS drives are server grade drives, basically the technology that replaced the old SCSI drives. SAS came in the old 3.5" standard..but server drives are coming in 2.5" form now. Comes in both hot swap and cabled.
But you're probably talking about RAID for a home desktop computer. What type of RAID setup you looking for..RAID 1, or a pair of RAID 1?
