Switching from DSL to Cable

Hi,

Recently I have decided to switch from my DSL provider to a cable provider because of the price benefits, paying 39$ for 3 meg when I can go for 30 meg for $48(not a one time rate). I honestly have no idea what the technical needs or specs are considered excellent. I want on a cable modem or rather a gateway since I would like one that has at least 3 Ethernet connections and also has wireless. I want to buy a modem as in the long run it will be much cheaper and more customizable, I assume, than renting one from the cable company. My old 2wireless gateway has worked fine for 4 1/2 years and I am looking for something to last at least that long. If there are any additional questions you need to ask feel free to; I hope I can provide the answers you need in order to help. Just glad I found a community that is very knowledgeable about these sort of issues.

I prefer a dedicated cable modem with my own router, not a "combo" modem/router. Motorola Surfboard 6100 series.....and a router such as a Cisco e3000 or e4200 model.
