SMC 8014 - no connection to web gui

    Hi everyone,

I just moved into a new condo and was trying to get a decent connection to our building's supplied wifi. I have a WRT54GS (DD-WRT) set up in Repeater mode connected to a WRT110 which is connected to the SMC8014 for internet access.

I got everything to work fine earlier and can access the web gui on my DD-WRT (192.168.2.1) and on the WRT110 (192.168.1.1).

Earlier, I could connect to 10.1.10.1 and get the SMC8014. However, maybe in my haste, I hit a setting that disabled this somehow. I was still on the gui and clicked on a tab and it wouldn't connect and now I don't get anything. Firefox times out. IE says it can find the server but it's not accepting connections in the diagnose connection problems utility. I can ping it fine in cmd.

I am still online and the WRT110 gets a DHCP IP from the SMC8014 and I get internet access from my devices connected to the WRT54GS.

However, I cannot access the SMC8014 to finish up - we have a dynamic IP from what I can tell so I was going to put the WRT110 in the DMZ as I have read. Is this the best route?

But why can't I access it? Physically, it's located in another person's condo - everything had default passwords so I'm tempted to ask if they'll let me be the network administrator and move the gear to my unit.

Thanks again and hopefully this isn't the worst introduction you've seen. The site helped me get this far.

Give a computer a static IP like 10.1.10.10, 255.255.255.0 and plug it into one of the LAN ports in the back of the SMC gateway...log into the web admin at 10.1.10.1. Guessing you disabled DHCP on it for some reason...you don't want to, you should leave DHCP enabled.

I would like to save that as a last resort since it's not in a public location. Why does the WRT110 claim it is getting a dhcp address from th SMC8014 gateway?

We have six units in the building but I'm not sure everyone uses it and I think we have some vacant. I wish they would have just done am Ethernet port in each instead or sticking a wireless router somewhere. Tossed the modem and a decent router/switch in the basement. That would have made sense.

Any other ideas? Change my routers to 10.1.10.x addresses?
