For the life of me I can’t find my virus disc. I don’t want to surf the web completely unprotected, that’s like playing Russian roulette.
So until the magical disc fairy brings my disc back, what freebie virus software do you think I should use?

Microsoft Security Essentials...... you can now stop wasting time looking for that old disc.

I forgot to add I have WinXP 64 bit.
Does it work on that?

Sadly no.
I can only think of AVG or Avast really.
or Avira if you don't have any kind of cracked software or something of that sort. Avira is nice for those absolutely clean computers but it sucks at keeping the exception rules.
Panda is also nice but requires internet connection I believe and also there's no way to add exceptions and it seems to remove things automatically even if it's a false positive.

Avast! is awesome, and Spybot S&D resident is awesome too as a firewall type of software.
Damn! AVG is no longer free.
You can download a 30 day free trail.

Microsoft Security Essentials is great, I use this on a lot of workstations.
Avast! is also good.
I've also heard good things about Avira AntiVir, I have not used that too much.

wow...i'm with CableDude...McAfee is crap & very hard to remove all traces once you've seen the light : )
I'm considering the 2011 version of Webroot AV with Spysweeper. PC Mag rates it Tops for the new year. Anybody have first hand Knowledge installing & using yet ? Don't want the Freebees & Kaspersky is a speed hog.
thanks in advance for your Pros & Cons.
What does everyone say about Comodo Internet Security? I use it along with Microsoft as a double layer security system.
You don't want to run more than 1 antivirus package on your system, the real time file protection of each antivirus get step on the toes of the other, and result in less effectiveness....or cancel each other out, cause system errors, lead to file corruption....lots of things that you don't want.

Only AVG has a free one out of those you listed..the OP asked for "free" ones.
Kaspersky would be one of the best "paid for" ones you can purchase, along with Eset, and G-Data.
Free ones....Microsoft Security Essentials, Panda Cloud, Avast, BitDefenders new one...those are good "free" ones. MSE being the only free one legal for a small business of 10 or less desktop workstations to be able to use.
