New lenses :)

A friend of mine at work was gracious enough to give me three lenses and a flash that he had in storage from when he had a minolta maxxum (those lenses fortunately work with the Sony alpha line). The three lenses included a 50mm/f1.7, a 35-70mm with macro function, and a 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 beercan telephoto. So far, I'm liking what I see with these lenses - may turn into regularly used lenses for me...

Here's a shot using the 70-300mm lens that I took nearby:

Beautiful shot of the moon. I have a Nikon D700 and just bought a 300mm lens, can't wait to take it for a test run out to the local Bald Eagle sanctuary.

You'll have to post some pictures up in the photography forum once you get them...I'd love to have a bald eagle sanctuary around here to shoot...

Very Nice! I wish I was that lucky. My Father had a really nice Minolta that he dropped In Hawaii and he told me I could try all his lenses. Unfortunately they DO NOT fit my new Nikon.

I need a good tele, but some what of an all-arounder - any ideas? I like the Nikon glass, but it is spendy above many others.

Thanks Cybo. I've been pretty happy so far with the Sony. Its done a lot of what I've wanted to do in a camera, and the only thing that's been holding me back is maybe my inventory of lenses. I've actually wanted for a while to get my hands on some of the minolta lenses because they have a reputation of being very well built and producing colors and a warmth that you don't get with other lenses. Plus, these lenses are full frame lenses, which means that when I move up to one of the pro models that is a full frame sensor camera, I don't have to worry about the lenses that I currently have that are designed specifically for the aps-c 4/3 sensor.

In any case, these lenses I think will be a lot of fun to play with
