cable modem

so i have windows xp and use Comcast for my service provider with a cable modem. now i don't really have any problems with my computer or connection at all, but i have a friend who has been having troubles with his system and got a "boot disk"? to reload XP's operating system onto his hard drive. well i guess he needs the internet to do this due for some reason and asked me if it was alright if he came over with his tower and used my internet to do it. now i only have one modem so i would disconnect it from mine and hook it up to his. my only question is when he is done and i hook the modem back up to mine is there any way his computer could infect mine at all via viruses or something. they wont be networked together or anything, but i dont know if what he had could go into my modem and get into mine when i hook back up. any help would be greatly appreciated

Not in that method.
But you're running without a router...thus without a hardware firewall...THAT is a more likely method to get a virus/trojan/worm.

You'll have to power cycle the modem between swapping connections, but no, there is no way data could be stored in the cable modem.
