Smile Discard Ping from the WAN side?

Actually, I have been busy fooling around with other aspects of my SMC7004BR to ask this but now I am. What is the function and possible advantages/disadvantages to using "Discard Ping from the WAN side" option?
Am I guessing that enabling this function prevents people from pinging your IP to death?
Thanks In Advance for any help you can render.

I believe it does the same thing that microsoft.com has done. You cannot ping www.microsoft.com. Basically when it receives a ping request it discards the ping and replies request timeout.
    Kinky is using a feather.
Perverted is using the whole chicken.
