Some real radical changes.. including the use of MS "power shell", for a lot of
the configuring. I'm going to do some more studying and lab work on my own soho network, and then take the cert test.
Anyone else doing any of these MCTS certs?

i did the Exchange 2003 test ... did not take any clases though. Just some dvds and my 3 node ESX lab.
I can't stand E2K7.
Things are supposed to be moving forward...and they revert us back in time to the prompt?
And one of the most useful tools..the message tracking center, gets crippled with that dumb wizard thing that doesn't show you all the good stuff you need to see....just the end result of what the wizard thinks you were looking for.

Well you know..MS wants to have that "linux" feel to things..
The main thing you have to do, is copy all the "cmdlets" that you
use into a document, so you have a "cheet sheet" for daily tasks, if needed.
From what people have been telling me, the certification for exchange 2k7 is
mainly about the cmdlets.

Well, they are not trying to make it like linux. Us admins asked for a way to do better scripting with ex2007, so microsoft helped .. i do think they went to far though. Some things can only be done via cmd .. and that pisses me off.
Overall i really like 2007, thought i do have some issues with it.
So for the exam it was mostly cmds .. thats a shame ...
As for the message tracker .. i really liked the 2003 version .. i agree 2007's is anoying to read.
Actually, for about a year or so Microsoft was asking both admins and users why they liked Linux so much.
For the users, it was the eye candy and configuration.. and this is mostly seen now, in the Windows 7 tool bar, and in the sidebar of Windows Vista. As for the admin and IT workers, cmdline interface and scripts as you put it. I'm sure that there were a lot of "Microsoft only" admins that voiced their opinions about scripting , but from what I have heard, again, Linux influenced.

It was scripting, it was on the msexchangeteam.com blog.
I have never met a microsoft only admin that disliked scripting ... We just dont want that to be the only option. I do my day to day stuff in the gui, my automation is done via scripts.
Linux has eye candy?
Most window managers in Linux have "eye candy". Ya I also work with scripts on Windows Server 2003.
A lot of "Windows Administrators" told Microsoft "Reps" that they wanted more scripting in the O.S. And in server apps, but Microsoft also took into account of that "survey" that they put out a year or so ago, when they asked a bunch of linux users and admins why they liked Linux so much.
One answer, was the windows manager gui and add ons (like compiz).
The other was the shells and scripting that Linux has always provided. From what I have been told, the majority of Microsoft server apps coming out are going to have a "power shell" console intergerated.
So your a admin, how many computers do you have on your network?
